  h'mmm, it is almost 11:00 am on a wednesday.

  i wonder if it is a jw.. to the best of my knowledge the following happened, but i did get a little excited during our intial conversation and what transpired later so i may not be recounting the facts correctly.. i went downstairs with my trusty sharpie in my pocket to answer the door.

  at the door there was an older (~75 year-old) man in a suit and appeared to be in good health.

  Robert: Thanks for sharing your experience. It was nice of you to pick up the litera-trash... pretty rude really, for them to run around scattering papers in the wind like that. What lousy advertising that is for an organization that claims to be living the good Christian life. Litterbugs, is what they are!

  I had my elderette visit me today, and I can REALLY relate to the frustration of preparing yourself to talk logically with someone... only to end up getting nowhere and wasting 3 hours of your day watching them do mental gymnastics.

  I agree with Frazzled UBM: " I think it is a function of the way they talk over you and change the subject as soon as you start to make any headway."

  I will give an account of my "conversation" when I get a chance. Good effort!

  I agree, DD. But our family never had those big fancy kits with the characters. I remember we had one small platform, 1-1/2 sets of wheels and a whole bunch of rectangle bricks in 5 or 6 different sizes.

  The really dangerous thing about Legos, in particular, is their educational value. The math and engineering skills that can be learned through experimenting with Legos, could be dangerous to a young JW's mindset. They may become confused, or even come to realize that they might be able to do problem-solving or independent thinking, outside the direction of Jehovah's writing department.

  I'm curious about the statement at the end of this article:

  "Hello Kitty and My Little Pony have also come under his scrutiny, with the latter being described as a "carrier of death"."

  JW Library app is available for Kindle -- ALL the reviews are *****5 stars!

  the few reviews i read were mostly about how long it was taking amazon to provide the app for kindle... jws were threatening to ditch their kindle and buy ipads instead.

  The few reviews I read were mostly about how long it was taking Amazon to provide the app for Kindle... JWs were threatening to ditch their Kindle and buy iPads instead. Then there are the reviews like "Finally! I can study God's TRUE Word on my Kindle Fire! This is the best translation out there!"

  Not an unkind word or question about the wondrous JW Library app is to be found!

  Perhaps some here would be interested in helping to make a more balanced and comprehensive review of the blessed app.

  sign up deadline is the 31st, in a couple of days.

  if you have problems with the website and youve been there before, try cleaning out your cookies and cache, then restart your computer.

  I am very thankful we were allowed to keep our health insurance for another year! We escaped this mandate, with our private insurance intact... for now.

  We simply could not afford the options available to us under the Affordable Care Act.

  We are a middle-class family of four, and the deductibles and monthly premiums for basic health care options under the new health care exchange are way out of our price range.

  If we lose our insurance next year, we will be using one of the Christian health care cost-sharing options. Obama-care is not in our budget.

  If you are a Christian, you have other options. Google Christian Health Care Options, and you will find a few ways to opt-out of this burdensome health care mandate:

  Preparing for my next visit from my Elderette - Who (or what) is the Faithful & Discreet Slave, and why do JW's worship and follow a slave?

  she is coming tomorrow afternoon, and i do plan to have a coherent mind and much better concentration this time.

  i was suffering from hypoglycemia last time she made a surprise visit, and i was foggy and literally could not comprehend a simple sentence i was reading.

  our plans are to discuss the topic of the fds.

  Unfortunately, I am going to postpone the visit, due to a medical appointment I overlooked on the calendar.

  I will reschedule... I like the ideas here, and I'm glad to buy myself more time to feel more prepared, and less like I am at her mercy.

  Playing "hard to get" might give me a little more of an advantage anyway... I don't want to appear too anxious.

  Life happens. Hopefully she will understand.

  If she sticks with the same routine, she is going to talk again about the analogy of a "jigsaw puzzle," and trynig to get a specific piece to fit just right. "It looks like it's the right piece, and it actually fits, but when I looked at it closer, I realized it was the wrong piece." I don't see her coming to a conclusion on this analogy, but merely using it as a method to confuse me.

  She also has made the comment about how "each person has to come to their own conclusion about what they believe..."

  When she says this, it does have some impact on me. Is this one of their learned techniques or standard lines that they use? Or did she come up with this one herself? I'm pretty sure the CO's wife also made a very similar comment to me.

  I have no response to that statement (at least not a kind one). I have a tendency to blurt out what I really think, so I will have to try to keep a gate on my mouth.

  I am curious to see who comes with her, if anyone. We will have some GS cookies and sliced Michigan apples for refreshments.

  Our plans are to discuss the topic of the FDS. Our agreement is to study from the Bible only, as she only wants to read from "inspired" words.

  • I think she is afraid I'm going to print out a bunch of apostate articles or make her defend accusations from the media - I know better than that.
  • If she opens up any WT literature, I am going to ask her to clarify what "inspired" words are, and also to define "apostate" information. (she really doesn't want to go there...)

  Any ideas for good questions to ask her, or techniques to keep the conversation on track?
